Juniors Unlucky Against Dromtariffe
Newmarket completed their Ducon Cup campaign against Dromtariffe on Wednesday evening and came within minutes of a fine victory before the defending champions produced a whirlwind finish to win by 2-10 to 1-9.
Dromtariffe took a second minute lead before TJ Bodie tied the proceedings. An excellent passage of play ended with Micheal Hourigan netting in the twelvth minute. This spurred on Newmarket and five points in succession from TJ Bodie (twice), Kevin O’Connor, Micheal Hourigan and Gerard Casey left Newmarket in front by 1-6 to 0-1 after twenty three minutes with John Lane very effective at corner forward. Dromtariffe ended the half with two points to leave the score reading 1-6 to 0-3 at the interval.
Newmarket maintained their fine form upon the resumption with TJ Bodie and Matthew Fitzpatrick pointing. Dromtariffe then added two points before TJ Bodie pointed what proved to be Newmarkets final score of the game after forty minutes which left the score reading 1-9 to 0-5.
Dromtariffe swung into action and completely took control. Gradually they tapped over points as Newmarket struggled to hold out wave after wave of attack. The deficit was reduced to 1-9 to 0-9 with five minutes to go when Dromtariffe were rewarded a penalty. Newmarket were momentarily left off the hook when the penalty was blazed over the bar but Dromtariffe amazingly struck for two late goals to claim a 2-10 to 1-9 victory.
