Intermediates Lose in Tom Creedon Cup
A depleted Newmarket side were defeated by Nemo Rangers who produced a master class second half display, to win a Tom Creedon Cup tie played at Newmarket last week by 0-18 to 0-7.
Seanie Francis O’Connor pointed twice as the sides exchanged four early scores before the visitors took a three point lead by the end of the opening quarter. David O’Flynn and John Cronin replied to reduce the arrears before Nemo Rangers got their sixth point. Two more points from Seanie Francis O’Connor ensured Newmarket went into the interval trailing by just a single point, 0-7 to 0-6 having played against a significant wind advantage.
The sides traded early second half scores with Seanie Francis O’Connor on target for a fifth time. Amazingly this proved to be Newmarket’s final score of the game four minutes into the half. Gradually the city side tacked on the scores and went into the closing quarter leading by 0-12 to 0-7. Playing with growing confidence Nemo Rangers played some exhibition stuff and converted a few impressive scores to run out convincing winners.
